*Sentence pattern: “Since…”  “既然 ……”  jì rɑ́n……
Sometimes, we will use the word “既然” to tell the fact. There is a sentence pattern in Chinese for doing that. It is“既然……， 就……”. This sentence pattern is different from the sentence pattern“如果……，就……”  although they look like the same. For the pattern “既然……，就……”，the meaning of the second clause  is controlled by the first clause. There is a cause-and-result relationship between them.

Example:

我們既然到一個國家旅遊，購買紀念品時就應該使用當地的貨幣。

wǒ men jì rɑ́n dɑ̀o yī gè guó jiɑ̄ lǚ yóu，gòu mɑ̌i jì niɑ̀n pǐn shí jiù yīng gɑ̄i shǐ yòng dɑ̄ng dì de huò bì.

Since we are tourists in a country, we should use the local currency to buy souvenirs.
